CHAUTHAI (India)

A strong closely woven and hand-made fabric used for counterpanes. Generally grey yarns with a red warp stripe down one side and cross stripes of red weft at intervals of about 36 inches. Originally the term denoted cotton fabric made of four-fold yarns.
